This book is pretty weird and I am here for it! Also, so far there is something that’s about as close as you can get to pan rep without actually using the word “pansexual.”

The house "reality" is way frickin' trippy.

So quirky. Definitely a buy in with regards to Jane suddenly becoming a detective but still... Part 2 done - onward ho.

This is definitely one of those books that would be New Adult instead of YA if NA were more of a thing.

I was too excited to read this! Now 50 pages in and I’m bored 😑 Help! I just came back to life after a book slump, I don’t wanna go to that black hole again ☹️

Beautiful, immersive writing as always with Cashore. Not sure what I think of the structure and plot.

Spoiler - maybe??
I felt like I just finished reading a book. Turns out I kind of was. Because now we're back at the checkpoint we saved earlier and see how one of the other options unfolds...

"Maybe, she thinks to herself, she should take her umbrellas down to the water, turn them upside down like boats, and send them off on waves, cartying nothing. Maybe if they carried away all the nothing she'd be left with something."

Is "raining frogs" some sort of East coast them off should I be taking this literally?

I am perhaps not alone when u say I thought this book would be... More supernatural than it is? Or at least has been so far? I don't know, maybe it gets more supernatural with each segment?
Either way, in still enjoying it.

Ok so the umbrellas make sense now but i still feel like I missed the initial explanation of them in the book.
The writing and dialogue is a bit stiff and maybe it's just me, but Jane's tone seems inconsistent. The plot itself, though is interesting enough and I'm curious to have all the puzzle pieces.

Am I missing something in regards to the umbrella? Is it just a reference to the scene in the bar or is there some significance other than that? Why does she need an umbrella for her "heroic journey? I feel lost. Also, she says she chooses the umbrella from a crate, like there's more than one, but then says she made it herself?

This book is a 3/5 overall for me
Cool concept, just badly executed.
I don't think the 5 stories go well together and the writing is so basic it was difficult for me to follow at times. It took me too long to read. Might have been 4 stars otherwise
I read this book mostly for the lgbt rep and it was fine ig. Treated like normal at least. yey for wlw couples!! Ravi's pansexuality? was VERY stereotypical tho yikes

5: strayhound 2/5
Not what I was expecting
The fantasy setting doesn't fit with this story AT ALL
I either missed or hated the references this ending was obviously inspired by through the looking glass and the worldbuilding was terrible as the dog said STOP TALKING AND SHOW US
I wish the rship w Ivy had been developed more nice rep tho
After reading this ending I want to change my rating for the first story to 3/5

Creepy.
Now I know what this reminds me of. It's the timelines episode from Community.
