Frankie found his “aunt” and thought it was his mama because of the things his “papa” told him. She didn’t accept him in and Frankie was put into an orphanage. He didn’t fit in well with the other boys at the orphanage. His hairless dog found him at the orphanage and he ran away with the dog and stumbled upon Aroura. He’s travelled to Nashville, Tennessee to find her again.

this writing is gorgeous

Frankie’s made it to America! He’s on a train to Detroit to meet his aunt. He’s also lost in the sauce at Woodstock trying to find his lover. This man knows how to write!

El Meistro is Frankie’s papa 🥹😭 and neither of them know because El Meistro is blind. I’m sobbing. and then El Meistro is pushed into the sea by his “friend” while he’s crying. I’m not okay after this chapter. 😭

It’s very interesting. Music as a narrator is genius.

Interesting. The boom is written from music’s perspective. And others involved with Frankie Presto. I love a book with multiple point of views.

There are long passages with terrible dialogue like this:

“You saved me.”
“I guess.”
“I would have died.”
“Don’t say that.”
“And the string turned blue?”
“Yeah.”
“For how long?”
“A few seconds.”
“Why blue?”
“I don’t know”
And on and on… The writing is astonishingly stilted.

“It was a hot day, in a brisk 2/4 key signature, and the tempo was vivace - lively, but sostenuto, prolonged.”

2/4 is a time signature, not a key signature. 🙄 And yet that’s not the worst thing about that sentence.

I’m currently realizing I have loved multiple books set during the Spanish Civil War, yet I couldn’t tell you anything about the Spanish Civil War.

I can already tell I would rate this highly. Please don't fumble 🙏

Great to have all the different narrative voices telling us of Frankie's persona and talent.

I could NOT for the life of me read this... swapped to audiobook - it is PHENOMINAL!

I found an old Amazon gift note in this book today from Tristan from college where he called himself "Overlord Tristan" and talked about trash pandas and called me "Winter-Ash". I think Mitch Albom would find this funny.

After seeing that a friend of mine read this book recently, I decided to commit to rereading it. Time to have my heart wrenched out again!!!
