When I work at home for too long I can start to get me overload, everything in my view reflects me, my thoughts reverberate in the space and familiarity lulls me into complacency. I know I need to pack my computer and go to a cafe for a change of scenery. You may be on introvert overload and need a break from your own thoughts and surroundings, these are times when human contact helps.

Our willingness to look at ourselves critically is often helpful, but we can go too far. We can hoard responsibility and overlook the role others play. We kick ourselves when we're down. How many times you felt lousely about something, only to feel bad about yourself for feeling lousy?

I always known I'm an introvert, and I found myself saying "that's me" as I read the first few chapters that describe the characteristics and nature of introverts.
Great to learn that there's more introverts in society (i.e. more than half the population) than the often quoted stat that only around 30% are introverted.

I pursued Psychology because I loved analysis, the courses were fascinating and I was compelled by the mystery of it. But, I hadn't imagined myself providing therapy. I liked the idea of therapy, but I didn't realize the immense amount of imposed work involved, meeting the clients, diagnosing, keeping records, translation session content into language insurance companies could understand.

Some introverts hit the right career on the first try, but many of us find work disappointing at first. we might pursue a career path for practical reasons, or because we are good at something, or perhaps because we have a compelling vision of what the work will mean.

Introverts spend a lot of time pondering the big questions, our love of ideas often inspires us to pursue noble work. But, as we soon find, these jobs don't pay us to set on a soft chair and think big thoughts, once in the job, we discover (to our horror) that we are expected to carry out the big ideas and that usually means talking to people.

Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth, more than ruin, more even than death. Thought is subversive and revolutionary, it's destructive and terrible. Thought is merciless to privilege, to established institutions and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Bertrand Russell
