Status Updates From George Washington (Vol 1): ...

Ends on a down note, but looking forward to volume 2.

The most interesting two lines of the chapter, however, involved the French speaking to one of George's officers after the capitulation which read, "They (the French) jestingly asked why the English had not demanded hostages while giving two. They were themselves most desirous of going to Virginia, where, they have been told, there were a great many fair young ladies." Such a comical exchange after a battle... lol

It was practically like being at Fort Necessity reading Chapter 11. Freeman is a masterful historian and storyteller.

It's amazing how George was to prevail in the face of so many obstacles and against overwhelming odds. This early victory must've certainly bolstered his resolve in the face of the many more difficulties that were to come

In dealing with the situation involving the Ohio territory, I can see where George and other Virginians saw the need for the colonies to unite in dealing with foreign relations issues. The slow process of preparing to deal with the French and Indians in the Ohio territory certainly put hopes of victory in jeopardy before the first shot would be fired.

Chapter 8 takes us into some very interesting early adventure involving then Major George Washington. Source citation is impeccable.

Chapter four had some very illuminating background for Virginia in the mid 1700s which painted a strong visual for the setting on young George's life.

Two chapters in and the man is born. You have to really keep up with the people, names and places and a map of late 17th/early 18th century Virginia would be useful.

Talk about detail! George's birth comes about 70 years after the land-holding history chronicled in chapter one. I am looking forward to blazing through this though!
