Reading this after seeing "The Imitation Game" movie (starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing) last night - highly recommend that movie although it is based on a different book, biography of Alan Turing by Andrew Hodges (but that one is 768 pages long).

There is a lot of very detailed information in each chapter. Thankfully the chapters are short but I can't read more than 3 or 4 in one sitting.

This is a little rambling, but better than a history book. My late Dad would have loved this book.

The very first "Bombe" machine was called Victory that ended up in Hut 1. It was huge...... Getting to the really interesting stuff with Alan Turing & Welchman

I never knew there were more than 1 Enigma machine during the war. Actually the machine the Army used was different from the machine the AirForce used, to make deciphering even more difficult. I would love to see the Enigma machine and the "bombe" myself someday. These were some ingenious made machines.....

It's incredible to read what they did with the grounds and the house at Bletchley to accommodate the code breakers and such... Really interesting read so far!

Now this has already really been an interesting reading start at just 11 pages in! I love when that happens...already looking forward to the other book called "The Secret Listeners" in the same Bletchley Park series from same writer...

Unsung heroes. A must read for anyone who uses any of today's essential devices, because this book will really make you appreciate how some significant secret sacrifices paved the way for them.

CH26, 1945 and After: The drawdown of BP allowed many to refocus on their pre-war plans. Some continued on with the services, while others pursued innovations in technology or private sector work. Turing continued to build his computer before he committed suicide after he was prosecuted and convicted of being gay (he was also forced to get hormone treatment). In 2009 the government gave an official apology.
