The story by Nicholas Christopher is one of the best stories I have ever read.

The Preacher Collects: a sort of historical account of an actual preacher who came into possession of a ton of Hopper works through unethical means written by the Hopper historian who accused him.

The Projectionist: mobsters and movie and the persistence of past deeds that never let go.

The Music Room: man, S. King can tell a heck of a short story.

Taking Care of Business: a touching tale about the end of life and friendship between octogenarians.

The Incident of 10 November: fun Cold War spy thriller with art!

Nighthawks: a mini-Bosch story about who a person identifies with in that famous shopper painting.

Rooms by the Sea: a strange, growing house and Basque myths.

The Truth About What Happened: security checks for the Manhattan Project sometimes require an agent to go the extra mile.

Sour Bleu: mimes, death, infidelity, and the sins of the father.

The Story of Caroline: a touching story about an end of life event and a reunited family.

Girlie Show: moral of this story is never marry an abusive artist.

It's cool that the second story mentioned Holyoke, MA which is currently where I am. :)

Absolutely loving these stories! The paintings invite speculation as to why Hopper dreamed up these snapshots of both everyday and peculiar lives. Why is a woman sitting naked, looking out a window, with only her shoes on? I'm treating myself to a story now and then between other books.

Wonderful stories inspired by paintings that can't help but inspire curiosity about what slice of life they're showing. I just read them now and then between other things.

Hmm, so far not impressed. 5 stories in and I'm wishing I could DNF it, but there's something about a short story collection that makes you think, Maybe the NEXT one will be the one...!
