With AI that turned poorly phrased English sentences into functional code, being a “developer” was nearly meaningless. Some “machine-assisted” developers were so unfamiliar with hardware that they wouldn’t have been able to identify the chips that they supposedly wrote software for; their knowledge was more in the realm of knowing how to ask machines to do things than in knowing how to do those things themselves.
