I am roughly 25% through, and I can already tell this does not feel like Liu's prose (much). It seems, to me, vastly different from The hidden girl, to take just that example.
That being said, so far, I feel this was done on purpose. I might not like that change, but am willing to go along for now. :-)
It will probably end up being a "novel of our times", the symptom of an era.
