This is the first Gaiman I've read (shocking, I know). The recent allegations against him came just as I was starting. I very much hope they aren't true. At the same time, I find myself not liking Gaiman as much as I thought I would, and I'm afraid I'm letting unproven allegations color my impression. Or perhaps he's just not someone worth whom I jibe.

pleased to report that altho i have continued to disagree with gaiman here and there, we are onto a portion of the book that is almost entirely recommendations for quality literature of various sorts. (we've covered sci-fi, movies & films - almost entirely old ones, and comics, and have briefly ventured into eclectic, weird 1800s novels.) having the time of my life. i hope to one day have as many opinions as he does!

has gradually grown less electric -- still fascinating & am learning a lot about science fiction, the art of storytelling, and a bunch of random authors/artists that I'm completely unfamiliar with. interesting glimpse into the things gaiman cares about! makes me want to go read ALL the books he refers to as classics, alongside whatever he's written. still have to figure out whether I like thrillers tho. sigh.

magical. this is my first time reading any of gaiman's stuff and i'm already in love with him. everything he discusses is fascinating, whether i agree with it or not, and he actually had me tearing up at the end of his piece "telling lies for a living... and why we do it." i couldn't tell you why. but his gritty sort of writing is sinking deeper into me than i thought it would. he's weary yet hopeful. SAME. ...same.
