I think my favorite thing about this collection (besides his voice) is discovering all these books and authors I really had no idea about that sound so fun and interesting!

I’m loving reading this every night, little by little, pen in hand. I’m having a lovely chat with Gaiman in the margins.

SLOWLY BUT SURELY I WILL FINISH THIS. SO HELP ME.
The worst bit is, I'm enjoying it. It's just a heavier book to digest.

chonky book filled with many different topics, from book introductions of other authors novels, university commencement speeches, to essays on his favourite artists and authors. i admire neil gaiman and his work, and often read his ramblings on tumblr. i picked and chose the chapters that interest me, mostly because i’m unable to appreciate his reviews and introductions for works i have not read nor listened to !

This was a lovely book, and I've enjoyed listening to Neil read to me the pieces of his nonfiction writing he felt were the most important of them all. I come away with a greater appreciation for reading, comics, simple pleasures, friendships, art, and other things I can't name as easily.

Literature does not occur in a vacuum. It cannot be a monologue. It has to be a conversation, and new people, new readers, need to be brought into the conversation too.

In addition to Neil's love letters to books, I also really enjoy his tributes to different authors and others in his life. Neil has a way of talking about someone honestly, but bringing to the fore the most shining parts of the person. He does this thru self-depracating comparisons to himself, personal anecdotes, and awed references to the subject's work. His interview of Stephen King was also pretty great.

I'm enjoying these essays and speeches by Neil Gaiman. He's got some very profound things to say about the way stories and reading and writing affect us as individuals and society. I enjoy the ones about reading the most, probably because I am not a writer.

His reviews of books I haven't read and his speeches about authors I don't really know obviously don't do much for me, but the rest of these are stellar, and I could listen to him all day anyway.

I've had several dnfs and mediocre reads recently, and I absolutely need something I'm sure I will enjoy. Neil Gaiman's essays narrated by himself has GOT to fit the bill.
