This is the first Gaiman I've read (shocking, I know). The recent allegations against him came just as I was starting. I very much hope they aren't true. At the same time, I find myself not liking Gaiman as much as I thought I would, and I'm afraid I'm letting unproven allegations color my impression. Or perhaps he's just not someone worth whom I jibe.

pleased to report that altho i have continued to disagree with gaiman here and there, we are onto a portion of the book that is almost entirely recommendations for quality literature of various sorts. (we've covered sci-fi, movies & films - almost entirely old ones, and comics, and have briefly ventured into eclectic, weird 1800s novels.) having the time of my life. i hope to one day have as many opinions as he does!

has gradually grown less electric -- still fascinating & am learning a lot about science fiction, the art of storytelling, and a bunch of random authors/artists that I'm completely unfamiliar with. interesting glimpse into the things gaiman cares about! makes me want to go read ALL the books he refers to as classics, alongside whatever he's written. still have to figure out whether I like thrillers tho. sigh.

magical. this is my first time reading any of gaiman's stuff and i'm already in love with him. everything he discusses is fascinating, whether i agree with it or not, and he actually had me tearing up at the end of his piece "telling lies for a living... and why we do it." i couldn't tell you why. but his gritty sort of writing is sinking deeper into me than i thought it would. he's weary yet hopeful. SAME. ...same.

Trust the tale not the teller as Stephen King once said.
Nicely said. People can write incredible thought provoking books and be a crappy human being.

It’s really unfortunate that the most annoying man in the world is also the best writer. This one was mostly boring though.

I'm not even a Neil Gaiman fan (yet?) and this is absolutely lovely.

Today I learned Amanda Palmer was/is part of The Dresden Dolls. All these years I’ve liked their music (not a super fan by any means) and had no idea.

“Make Good Art” is my favorite article / speech contained in this book. I loved watching the video, and reading it again fills me with inspirational joy. I need to find time to write again.

This must be what falling in love feels like... I could say it a billion times a day, but there is no author I find as interesting and inspiring as Neil Gaiman. He is beyond brilliant, and making me this invested in a piece of non-fiction work, only proves that. There is still so much left of this collection and I cannot wait to discover it further.

Madre mía el capítulo de Stephen King. Menuda joyita. Al paso que voy, veo que releeré este libro unas cuantas veces.

One essay in and I'm already emotional. This is exactly the kind of non-fiction I've been looking for.
