It's been so long since I've read the book. I think the movie has replaced most of my memories. Time to reread. Also from what I've read, this is considered Magical Realsim and I'm curious to see an American take on the genre.

IT WAS ABRIDGED are the worst possible words to hear as the audiobook closes. I mean, what did I miss???

I am not digging this book... but I must finish it.

Found my excuse for crying whenever I want/need to - "holding tears back makes them drain upward, higher and higher, until one day your head just explodes and you're left with a stub of a neck and nothing more."

"now whenever he kiss d her she cried and wished she'd never fallen in love in the 1st place" "they were no-nothings" "they were pitiful charlatans in her opinion, old women who wielded less power than flies left to die on the windowsill" augrghh!

Sally is annoying. She'tolerated the clients but w not allow her aunts foolishness to affect her children'Isn't she still living in the attic?& like she gives a damn abt her kids the way she abandoned them& wished they died instead. Uppity willfully ignorant dormouse. She's contemptuous! Gillian is selfish but it doesn't bother me like Sally's hypocritical bullshit.

Struggling to put this down and go to sleep....

The narrative style is starting to get to me.

A little tedious to get through the first section. Seems like the author puts a lot of thought into settings things up. Moves a long without much dialogue.

love that the book is nothing like the movie. the movie was great but the book has more dark moments and is gores deeper into the characters of the sisters

I'm sad I didn't finish this by Halloween, but I'm loving the story nevertheless. Alice Hoffman has such a lyrical way of writing.

I accidentally picked up a family drama because it was supposed to be about witches.

Does this book ever grow out of family backstory?

So very different from the movie. Only now do we meet Gary, with 50 pages to go.
