Finally breaking through this slump. A Theory of Dreaming by Ava Reid is brimming with dark academia magic and myth woven into every page. It’s the kind of story that reminds me why I fell in love with reading in the first place.

I get Preston being young wanting to help Effy get her medication, but the reality is she’s been abusing them. And of course she goes overboard once she hears her awful mother’s voice. I feel like this whole book is an allegory for suicide. I hope it has a happy ending like the first.

These two are together, I wish they would just talk to each other. So much would be resolved if they did. I get why they wouldn’t, they’re young people in their first relationship, but it’s still annoying.

Also, Gary Furlong, the male voice narrator, is fantastic, amazing at accents and tone. He reminds me of a young Simon Vance.
