The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is so well-written. Jemisin is a wordcrafter, and I think I’m learning how to read her stories: don’t think so much, but rather, let the rhythm and texture of her language wash over you so that you feel, rather than “understand”, what’s going on. Not that her stories don’t make sense; they do, but she tends to write in riddles, which you should just pass over.

I have no idea why it's so hard for me to make progress in this book when I've devoured Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy, but at this rate, I'll finish this sometime in 2019.

First book - 4 stars

N. K. Jemisin is _definitly_ one of my best authors this year... Up there with Mark Lawrence and Robert Jackson Bennett. I'm enjoying this book. The style is sooo refreshing!

Interesting. Really different - hard to follow at time but fascinating.

Had to get my hands on this version when I read there was a novella included that goes a bit into what happens after Book 3.

Finished Book 1: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Finished the first two-ish parts of the trilogy. Just the last story to go. Seem to be on an indefinite pause.

Completed Chapter 7: "Love," and Chapter 8: "Cousin." Starting Chaptr 9:

Completed Chapters 3: "Darkness", 4: "Magician", 5: "Chaos", and Chapter 6: "Alliances." Starting Chapter 7: "Love."

Finished reading second book of the trilogy, The Broken Kingdom.

Very interesting so far!!

Now that I've finished with The Bone Witch, I find myself... eager to immerse myself back in this trilogy.

Currently focused on Book I: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. Completed Chapters 1: "Grandfather," and 2: "The Other Sky." Starting Chapter 3: "Darkness."

There is one glaring inconsistency so far in book one... but it may be setting up for what happens at the end. Not sure how I feel about that... seems too obvious. Either way, she's proven to be a brilliant author so far so I'm sure it'll be something mind blowing.

More and more I believe the characterization in The Fifth Season and The Obelisk Gate is intentional. My heartstrings are being tugged on already by the characters here, if in subtle ways.

Book #2 done! Book #3 started. So far, I think I like book 2 a teeny bit better than book 1.
