11/20/19: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms: ***1/2 A lot of gasping and sighing but a fascinating mythology. I will be pissed if book 2 is filler.

Wait—so Ahad who was the human part of Naha was able to father children on his own? So is Deka a regular human or a Demon???? This whole two people/one body thing is really confusing.

I’m bored again. I don’t like reading about meetings in books. I read to AVOID meetings.

This is very Inception-esque.

The thought of what he has forgotten is piquing my interest. The story has picked up, at least.

This is bugging me. If, when the gods were enslaved by the Aramari, they were slaves by day and gods by night, and after they are freed those two beings separated, and if the day slaves say they couldn’t remember anything from their partner gods, then doesn’t that mean that the goes never suffered in their status as slaves? If totally diminishes what happened to them.

I wonder if it would be considered an insult or a compliment to compare Jemisin to a female Neil Gaiman.

Lying in the garbage for three days seems to be a rite of passage for these gods.

Uuuuuggggghhh...this last installment of The Inheritance Trilogy, Kingdom of Gods, is slow. Kind of painfully slow.

Finished The Kingdom of Gods (Book 3). Definitely weirder than the first two and in some ways more predictable. But still a beautiful and moving story and well worthy of concluding a wonderful trilogy. Now to read the final part of this collection - the follow-up novella The Awakened Kingdom.

End of book 2. Switching to a different book for a while.

I am totally sucked into this one. Just realized I have the whole trilogy as one book on my phone... 59 “pages” down, 1,403 to go!

13/09/2019: I probably shouldn't have begun The Awakened Kingdom so soon after Kingdom of the Gods. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it and I certainly think that this series shows Jemisin's development as a writer. Not sure I will move on to the Broken Earth trilogy any time soon, but I do get why people more into the fantasy genre would like this series.

Finished Book 2 (The Broken Kingdoms). As beautiful and entrancing as the first and yet so very different. Can't wait to see what Book 3 brings.

10/09/2019: started reading The Awakened Kingdom.

I’m in the third story of this one-volume trilogy +novella. One of the side effects of being so long in this world occupied by some truly messed-up deities is that Joan Osborne’s “One of Us” is my earworm.

Book 1 finished (The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms). It was engaging and beautiful and so rich with world building and characters and everything I loved about The Broken Earth series. Looking forward to the second book - The Broken Kingdoms
