As for Freddy … I’d say there was some relief there in all honesty. He carried on with his self-appointed chores, fixing the tired old summerhouse door, working in the garden, tending to his damned chickens, the only things my son ever wanted to do. I think he’d have been more upset if one of his hens had died.
