So far so good. Taking me longer to read, because I'm taking notes as I read. There's good and helpful hints and tips I need write down for future reference. I'm borrowing this book on the Amazon Lending Library so I do need to write everything down instead of just highlighting it on my Kindle. Will continue tomorrow!

He figured out early on that the key to originality was write who you are. - There are still a bunch of concerns that go along with that, though. Just sayin'.

Writing is never any good when it is done in the grip of anxiety. A tense brain freezes creativity. If you try to make writing too much of a military exercise . . . you'll be working against yourself. - ...yep, this is how I am. But it's not so simple as, "Stay loose!" At least, to me it isn't.

Tearing through this. Bell has a knack for making me feel inspired/productive/wise.

Got this from the library since structure is a weak spot of mine.

This book is well written and helpful, but the author has such a hard-on for Dean Koontz. It's sort of distracting. I feel like I'm somehow missing out on something because I haven't read any Koontz.

I ended up pausing in this book as I was in a revision place in my current novel. Now that I'm ready to start writing a new one, I'm ready to pick this back up again!

So far this is the best craft book I've read. Clear, specific, fast-paced...

I can't help but apply each lesson to my novel. But it takes awhile to crawl through the 75K words each time.

This author is way too fond of Dean Koontz.

I'm not using this as a hardcore how-to guide for plotting, but it does provide some helpful tips. I see nothing wrong with viewing plots as basic structures. It doesn't adversely affect originality or creativity, imo.

Very helpful so far despite the fact that most of the examples are about suspense novels.

I just couldn't stop reading what I wanted to, just to read something that is required for work. Looking forward to this book!

This is not a quick read book. This is one I take in small bites and digest a little at a time. I am learning a lot.

My family bought this for me as a birthday present - to help in my writing. I've gotten a lot out of his 'ideas' section - and I'm an ideas nut! I am always coming up with new ideas for a story, but I like the advice James gives here - to come up with 100 ideas for good books, and then pick the few that are the cream of the crop to actually write, seeing I don't really have time to write 100 books...

So far.. Absolutely awesome. Not even half way into the book and my plot is already beginning to -really- come together.

Made some good progress on this the other day and found the part about endings that resonate very helpful.
