He can get too formulaic but it's really good to think about.

Great read in itself... Really helps me to understand the factors to consider in a great (and saleable) novel.

Not entirely ground breaking but useful in any case.

Yeah but you have to be careful not to spread it too much. It'll drag.

Chapter 4 is all about "beginnings". I assumed this chapter would go over a few good ways of structuring Act 1 in its entirety, but this chapter was literally all about the very first line and paragraph in your story. Thanks Mr. Bell, I have my opening paragraph and it's fantastic. Now how should I flesh out the rest of Act 1? What? No response? Just skip to the middle of the book? Okay, great...thanks?

Not really impressed with chapters 3 and 4. How to "explode" with plot ideas? Really? I bought this book because I am a beginning author and I already have tons of ideas. I guess I'll just have to go back to it if I ever come down with a bout of writer's block.

Gosh. I always thought it was endings I struggled with - this book has shown me that it's middles. Worth the price for that chapter alone.

This book is taking me forever to get through, mainly because every time I pick it up I find a gazillion things I need to change about my manuscript. Encouraging and depressing simultaneously.

My parents got me this book for Christmas. So excited! I'm little under the second chapter and already am hooked. Can't wait to see what happens! :)

I'm really liking this book. So much useful information. I'm pausing the continuation of my novel and looking over of what I have so far with the new stuff I learned. Already have some ideas of how to improve it.
