From most other reviews I expected to hate this. So far I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

Annie is TSTL. She makes one bad decision after another. And now she's playing child psychologist because her freaking puppets apparently give her insight into a messed up kids head? Seriously having a hard time finishing this. I don't like not finishing books, but I'm disgusted more and more with each page turned.

So far both of the characters are completely unlikeable. There's going to need to be some serious turn around for them to be redeemed in my eyes.

I found the emphasis on the protagonist's rather squirrely, in my opinion, obsession with her ventriloquism puppets in the beginning of the book pretty creepy. Didn't encourage empathy with Annie Hewitt, and well into the book, I still think she's a bit obtuse, albeit feisty. I like her male counterpart, Theo, far better. A fast read, especially for middle of the night insomnia.

I am having grave doubts about this book. Which is sad, because I adore SEP. We'll see...

“Good night,” she said. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Hey, we had a deal. Aren’t you supposed to take off your clothes now?”
“It would only be pity sex,” she said, in a mock confessional. “I won’t insult you like that.”
“Go ahead. Insult me.”

“And you’re supposed to be out of here by the time I get home.”
“Am I?” He looked vague, a matinee idol prone to memory lapses. Hannibal wandered out from the kitchen and draped himself over Theo’s shoe.
She gazed at the cat. “What’s your familiar doing here?”
“I need him while I work.”
“To help cast spells?”

I am on the 3rd disc of this audiobook and I am confused by this book. From the title and cover blurb, I was expecting a lighthearted contemporary romance but there's no romance. The hero is an A1 a**hole. He and the setting is giving me Jane Eyre gothic, but without the chemistry and the heroine lacks Jane's sense of self.

He jabbed his finger toward the cottage. “You think I did that?”
“No, no. Of course, I don’t.”
“You do think I did it.” His frown turned to a glower. “You can’t imagine how much I want to walk away right now and let you deal with this yourself.”
“F-follow your instincts.”

Doesn't this lady realize talking to puppets is just as creepy as writing horror novels?

I've never thought there'd come a day when I would feel like this for a book written from one of the authors of my heart...it pains me so much, I'd rather not have started it at all...

Wanted something fluffy as a break from the dark dark fantasy I've been reading. But this book kinda sucks.

I ain't Sherlock but..Anyone having read JEyre can solve the mystery building in the 30% of the book! Not a crazy wife locked up in the attic, but certainly NOT THE HERO!The pages scream....
On another note...THIS has made me see the hero in a more positive light...still waiting for the heroine "enlightment"!
