"The horrible Mouse King sat on her shoulder, blood-red foam dripping out of his seven open jaws, and, gnashing and clashing with his teeth, he hissed out to Mary as she lay motionless for fear and dread.."

A seven-headed mouse ? Mice running around the house? This sounds like my personal nightmare.

I’ve been postponing reading this book for over a year, or maybe even more. Now I’ve read it in one sitting.
So, I’ve read an abridged version of it adapted for German level 1 language learners. And WAS MARIE 7??? Then how could they speak about marriage?? Overall, I think I need to read full original version to fully appreciate the story.

I thought I would really get into this book but so far I’m fighting to finish each chapter. But if you know me once I start I have to finish. I hope it gets better.

At the wedding danced two and-twenty thousand of the splendidest puppets decked out in pearls and diamonds; and Mary is now Queen of a country in which spark ling Christmas-tree woods, transparent Toffee Palaces, in short, the finest and most wonderful things, are everywhere to be seen by those who have only eyes to see them.
So ends the story of Nutcracker and Mouse King.

by'Confiseur'is meant an unknown but very fearful power, which they believe can do with them as he pleases;it is the Fate that rules over this merry little people, and they fear it so much, that the mere mention of the name is able to still the greatest tumult. Each one then thinks no longer of any thing earthly—of cuffs, and kicks, and broken heads, but retires within himself, and says:What are we, and what is our destiny?

During the long, long day of the twenty-fourth of December, the children of Doctor Stahlbaum were not permitted to enter the parlor, much less the adjoining drawing-room.
