Memorializing of heroes--the dead shaped sacred spaces. Reason for he name Parthenon--not so much Athena as the virgin daughter of Erechtheus, who was sacrificed for good of the city. Name Pandora? [another one, not box opener] "place of the maidens"--Pandora? and her sisters. Explanation of Hyakinthia festival. Influences from ancient days given. Panathenaion: description and importance.

Building of and description of Parthenon and Erechtheon, especially the friezes--some in the U.K., some in Greece. Importance of Erechtheus myth-history to Athenians as he was considered their primordial father.

Some mythology retold that I never heard of before. Some mythological figures became constellations, e.g., Drako, Hydra. Temples on Acropolis before the Parthenon built. Much destroyed by Persians.

Reading slowly to retain anything. Fascinating and not complicated so far. Athens in antiquity -- geography, topography, natural surroundings, why this particular location of Acropolis chosen. Description in antiquity. Sacred space. To ancient Greeks mythology = history. Deluge myth like that of Sumerian and Hebrew.

Learning about ritualistic movement - "The physicality of the human body was thus employed as an instrument of ritual communication." so cool!

Finding time to read amidst leading camp is difficult, but boy is it worth it! Delving into the concept of Greek heroes (dying for glory in battle) vs Greek heroines (dying for glory by virginal sacrifice, the only option for a noble death is in giving up life for the whole of Athens and, therefore, Greece). Fascinating gender disparity in their search for #legendary status.
