I read all of these as a kid or tween, but feeling nostalgic these days, I thought I would reread one to understand why I obsessively read them years ago. The writing is pretty tight.

You know, I'm starting to get genuinely invested in the plot by now.

Boy howdy, the narrator sure likes calling the clock "the timepiece."

Now Kitty's finally in some danger. But it's not really related to the main plot, so it's more a gratuitous danger situation to keep the reader interested than a natural outcome of the story so far.

So after the other girls at summer camp explained to Nancy that the motor boat's engine can't be relied upon to work properly, and that they're in an area where there's no help to get in case of an accident, they're just... going to use the motor boat anyway?
Okay...

The writer also likes calling Abby Rowen "the elderly woman" instead of using her name.

Boy howdy, this writer sure loves using the term "the young sleuth" instead of Nancy's actual name.

And now a clerk that Nancy talked to just happened to overhear an extremely relevant conversation. Contrived coincidence, methinks.

The woman who wrote this book sure doesn't believe in letting dialogue speak for itself. Line after line is followed by "Ada interrupted rudely," "Isabel Topham told him icily," or "the harassed man apologized."

These resolutions are just a little too convenient 😂

This moves so fast, but I guess I should expect that from a kid's book.

I've read this book a very long time ago. Since its been a long time and I'm a huge Nancy Drew fan, I figured it was time to re-read it!

I'm only reading this for a comparison to the new TV show on The CW. For some reason I didn't expect this to be targeted as young as it obviously is.

The lack of spaces between paragraphs is so weird.

seeing as there isn't an adaption of nancy drew i don't love i figured checking out the source material could be a fun time. so far i have not been disappointed. i know this was a v racist time, but even i get the cozy feels from this era of americana.
