Ha, Barl didn't ward the room at all it seems so she's as dumb as the rest of them. Morg sees how it all works and can now undo it, but has to go slow because partial magics. Just mind control everyone, no one knows about it, saying it's impossible is just the author trying to write herself out of the too strong villain corner she wrote herself into. Veria is takes her poison with them to 'save' Asher.

He comes too and it partially worked. He has enough to see into the wall now. I hope he pulls it off. Barl was too stupid to just KILL him with the orb, so he's off the the weather room to use the weather magic. It's too much to hope she rigged the weather room to kill him. Probably more talking and scolding him, instead, though.

Mat heads to Viera, Dat soon after. Asher is put on display, they all hate him now. Viera has a plan but sounds like it'll require people to sacrifice themselves. Gar finds out about the diary from dying Borne, Derren finds it. Morg takes the orb and mingles his soul with J's to try and fool it. It partially starts to work then doesn't so the orb get's destroyed. He gets burned and passes out.

Morg has Asher arrested, tortures the truth out of him tells Gar it's over. Fucking idiots deserve this. Of course, Morg is leaving them alive for some reason. All he has to do is kill them, hide the orb and destroy the books and success. Too stupid to even just hide the orb, though. Book full of morons.

Willer runs off to tell J/Morg.

Bwhahaha. What total crap. Asher goes ALONE to the Weather Room, because no one is going to notice where the King is I guess and Asher doesn't need a lookout and then also doesn't even lock the damn door to the place, so Willer goes in and finds him on his ass out of it. Please let them all die, pleeeease.

Gar steal the weather orb and the books about it because the most important things in the entire kingdom, including more important than any person, are not guarded at all. Then Asher presides over a trial, people love him. Then since they are so stupid Asher and Gar are talking about his weather working etc in the palace, in Asher's office, out loud while Willer is snooping and hiding.

And also lies about Matt. Morg breaks free from Bornes dying body into Lord J the asshole so they're all fucked now. Or should be. This book isn't going to end well it seems, both for the good guys and it's just not going to end the story.

Asher takes over the Weather Working, pain and all. Hooks up with Dat. Matt thinks this is fucked up like she's using him, but if she really loves him what's the problem? If she is playing him then yeah, but this seems off. Asher fires him because he thinks Matt is in love with Dat and grabbed her, and Matt just lets him instead of saying it has nothing to do with that. But she still won't tell him anything.

So this establishes the first law is the law for a reason. They're going to fuck around with the magic and endanger everyone so asshole doesn't become king. Boo fucking hoo. It seems like Morg made it so their version of Weather Magic causes pain, so either Asher is going to work that out or...I dunno, but at this point fuck them both. Hope they both die.

Gar does his parents statues and blacks out. Asher tells Dat about the weather working tearing Gar up, she points out he's dumb for sticking around. Then he finds Gar passed out. Then that night Gar fucks up the spell, Asher knows how to do from watching. Instead of writing it down, he mimes him through and starts doing magic. Gar loses his totally. So wants Asher to take over. Fucking hell what a bunch of idiots.

The accident is ruled an accident, Jarralt doesn't believe it or want to or says he doesn't anyway. Gar is officially crowned and again swears about his magic going away. If this is the last book things are going to end on a crap note it seems. Morg is still out of it but holding on. Lord J gets slug Willer to spy since Darren and Asher made public peace for Gar. Weird how Darren doesn't tell Will that.

Gar is all fixed up, Jaryl is of course not happy him being King. Gar makes a speech about being dedicated or his magic will fail him. And of course it is going to. He then goes and makes it rain everywhere, since I guess this place is small enough it all wants rain? It fucks him some to do it, but he pulls it off. Asher is made Olen admin. Hires Dat as his assistant, still has a thing for her.

Asher goes back to work, Darren comes in saying the royals are late. Matt and Asher head out, find Gar and Morg banged up, Morg seriously. Asher climbs down and finds the other 3 bodies. People turn up, Jeralt gives Gar shit about being king. Then he collapses. They take him back to city. Asher rides ahead and tells Darren the news, who has a heart attack or something. They take him to the doc.

There was one sex scene and after like thousands of pages into this duology, I Did Not Expect That. All of the pacing and secondhand embarassment and utilization of the dramatic irony is finally happening.

Can I just say what a lovely character Darran is? Despite how he comes across in the first book, here (especially in part 3 onwards) we see so much kindness and care and love for the family he's served all his life—and especially for the little baby boy who he so genuinely regards as family. It's so damn touching. 😭

Getting into part 3 now of this book, and things are about to go DOWN. Everything I was wishing wouldn't happen is happening in this book and the plot thickens! I'm excited to see how everyone will recover from the consequenses about to hit them.

I think about this book and think about reading it but when it actually comes down to reading it, I'll almost always do something else instead...

Kind of having a hard time reconnecting with these characters...it’s been so long :(

This novel is really amazing and creative... I love the characters and how the events turns out.

Oh man, the story is getting so intense. I'm loving every second of this book!

So far so good! Book #2 is taking on a much more serious tone than book one.

I'm not loving this one as much as the first, but it's still entertaining.

OMG! What is going on? This book is so different from the first book. Chaos. Quicker plot developments. But, it's currently leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I'm definitely going to finish this book, but I am not sure if I will read the rest in the series.

The second half has been good, but dark. Looking forward to finishing this one!
