The Acharnians: this is basically a meta social commentary self-insert play. Interesting how Aristophanes straight-up name drops irl individuals like Euripides. Also like... I haven't read Telemachus so I missed the point of the whole call-out section. Pity.
Peace wins essentially. Pretty cool, also the whole porker daughters scene is so wild. Ancient Greece never stops opening my eyes to new... imagery.

Lysistrata's short review: this is SO funny and SO raunchy, and I think we as a modern society sometimes tend to forget that olden people were just as funny as we are today. This is pure comedy, some of the imagery in the book just killed me. Also so full of bitchqueen pussybosses, love it.
Note on the translation: very modern and slangy, easy to read. For some reason, Spartans speak in the Scottish dialect. Silly.

Long life brings many surprises, shiver me timbers!
Who would have thought, my friends, we’d ever hear!
That women, whom we reared
As blatant mischiefs in our homes,
Should seize Athena’s statue,
And occupy our sacred hill,
And fasten up these massive gates With bolts and bars?

Just finished The Acharnians after the intro. This is absolutely hilarious, there's so many good pun scenes: different ages of wine as metaphors for different durations of a possible peace treaty, an uncomfortable but language-wise genius scene about "porkers", and it all feels very on the nose of Aristie just trying to say "War is bad". Intro is incredibly useful for historical context and a summary of Aristophanes.

Too plain, not interesting, not much literary value (in my opinion, though there is a bit of that too)
