I feel like this would have worked better as a standalone, marketed for being what it is - cozy, easy going, quiet romance with cute dragons. It does harm to itself by being the second in a series with Hart and Mercy as its predecessor. It’s not that I don’t necessarily like it, but I really miss the pining, high emotions, and general action that we had with the Undertaking

The magical creatures in this book are next level. I cannot handle it.

Honestly I’m stumped as to why the author chose this route. From the characters choice - two people who pretty sure only appeared in one scene in the previous one, to the easy going boring pace, to the lack of steam or romance whatsoever. I definitely expected more of the previous and this is disappointing. Sigh

fun so far!! my issue with the first one was that it relied a little too much on the you’ve got mail retelling aspect which took away from what would have been a unique and fun story. this so far does not have the same struggle, and I like that the couple is middle-aged! also, dragons you say??

I got the arc for book three on audio, so I’m gonna read book two even though the first wasn’t my absolute fav! maybe things will get better :)
