Writing style and flow keeps me going

I read this book in year 1 at university. It is a post-modern book about the end of history. Our lecturer played us a song by Sinead O’Connor called ‘Famine’. I remember being perplexed and unsure whether I was meant to be at university.

When we were on holiday in North Wales, Sinead O’Connor died. I read about her song ‘Famine’ again. Then I walked into a bookshop and this was prominently displayed.

Woah there: incest, underage drinking, utter chaos, what is real and what is not….


I find myself swirling into an ever-deepening whirlpool of plot line that has no end in sight, but the book is (relatively) coming to an end.

So interesting. Stream of consciousness narration? Why is there ZERO supplementary material about this book on the internet.

Wow the circuitous nature of this book is really disorienting but Swift writes in such a posh, conversational tone I feel like I’m sitting in a class at Oxbridge.

Gosh this book is such a grog to read. So many specifics and details and names and hugeeee sentences. Though I must admit—there are some really nice gems of narration.
