Defoe likes to repeat himself... or atleast i think i'm reading him repeating himself.

Hm... I'm not sure what to think of this book. I enjoyed it, but I have the feeling it will get tedious since there aren’t any chapters, and the description is super detailed as well as objective.

I’ve been always fascinated with the plague and I guess now is the best time to read this book.

Lo elegí para realizar un trabajo, y es increíble, como también triste, la semejanza que encuentro con la pandemia que esta presente hoy en día 😔

No es para nada lo que me esperaba.

The rich flee the city, the poor have to go out to work so they fall ill and mostly succumb. The government lies about how many people have died. The parallels to our current situation are predictable and depressing.

購書網站上給了本書『史上第一部瘟疫文學，歐洲小說之父丹尼爾‧狄福融合紀實與想像之震撼作品』的稱讚，作為一種開創，當然也可以看到很多後世作品的原型；本書背景在敘述1665年倫敦的一場瘟疫，人群先是被抽象化成各教區的死亡公報，藉著視野的移動，倖存者猶如末世 zombie 系列影集，只能不斷的移動找尋求生的機會，偶有奇蹟的好結果讓人不至於對人性絕望，恐懼產生的懷疑和荒謬的拉扯雖非十之八九，至少也佔了大量篇幅；而能稱為紀實的好處就是不會有影集裡的 jump scare

I respect the clearness with which the author writes the narration but in the back of my head I wish the Author thought of doing this himself with this story. It’s just so hard to get through…

It’s worth noting that the rich seem to be erring on the side of caution (packing up and leaving town) while the poor listen to quack (fake) doctors, fortune tellers, con artists and astronomers. Feels strangely relevant today. Money may not be the biggest divide anymore but there is definitely opposing opinions about the pandemic based on mostly political divides.

Quite repetitious, I feel like if we registered the 30000 thoughts (or so they say) per day that we have in a log we would have something like this novel. It’s interesting learning of the great Plague of London (supposed second hand sources) and the surroundings of London but it’s difficult to barrel through at times…

There is visibly no plot, just a guy trying to survive through a plague (reading has been slow going this week; work is crazy busy, ugh…)

Apparently people in the 18th century didn’t believe in making sections or chapters… savages…

Well, interesting so far and comparisons with our current COVID situation are quite rewarding to do. Efforts to control the pandemic, as well as people's range of emotions, actions and reactions, are documented in what I have been told is a historically quite accurate account - based on the diaries of Defoe's uncle.

At times, the churches let in formerly disgraced ministers, only to turn them out when the plague abated. DeFoe praises the city political leaders for staying and doing their respective jobs.
