Sitaro was not a bad word, in and of itself-the trouble was the way it could be wielded. Words had two kinds of power-the first in their meaning, the second in how they were said.
Sitaro was a title, and could be said with reverence, or at least respect. But it could also be spat, or cut down-drop the final note and turn sitaro into sita, consort into whore.

There was no easy way to translate Veskan. It was the kind of language where every word could mean a dozen things, depending on their order and their context. It's why he'd never managed more than a frail grasp on a handful of phrases. But this one he'd held on to. This one Alucard understood....

The amount of weight in 4 simple words. The amount of character building (over the course of 4 books!) leading up to 2 lines of dialogue.

There’s less than 10% left. I don’t mind a cliffhanger but V. E. Schwab better do me good with this ending because with the way things are going right now…my heart is in my throat

realizing as the plot ramps up what a horrible idea it is to be reading this when the second book is likely not out until 2027 because of victorious in 2026

Okay well you see, this twist I saw coming but I respect V. E. Schwab trying to two-punch us in rapid succession into submission. I’m loving every minute

This time, grudgingly, she did.

Ah... And one for those (of us) who've learnt to do it all solo.

She sighed in relief. "You came."
Kell stepped into the room, the black ring's cord swinging from his fingers. "You called." He smiled a little as he said it. That smile felt nice.

Surprisingly I’m enjoying this book way more than The Darker Shade of Magic series. Which is weird because it’s literally just a continuation of the previous trilogy.

"What's wrong with him?" she asked as Lila Bard hauled her up the stairs.
"He's an idiot," answered the Antari, glancing back over her shoulder.

Too many POV’s for me…. And some very unlikeable main characters.
Bit of a struggle

After-after the battle with Osaron, after the shadow king was bound, after Kell accepted that his bond to magic was broken—he had gone to see the Aven Essen.
"What am I now?" he'd asked, angry, and frightened, and in pain.
And Tieren had cupped his cheek and said, "You are alive. Isn't that enough?"

This book is serving pain like fine wine on a summer night... Aka easily, continuously and without PAUSE.

Tesali Ranek had a wind-blown heart.

One of the best chapter intros of ever. Went straight through my heart 🤍

A new spell rose to her lips, spilled out before she thought to keep it in.
