Not bad, it’s just not doing what I wanted it to. Tried to shake it up to get out of my slump & am slumping harder than ever before.
Agree with the reviewers who said the journalistic Q&A style inhibits the book’s ability to connect with you — I love an apocalypse story, but especially post-pandemic, the style & story seems to fall flat.
Hoping it’ll pick up bc I have a temporary no DNF policy!!

I'm giving up and moving this to the DNF shelf. I expected to like it because so many of my book club friends sing its praises, but for me it is too much like reading an account of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's just too close to reality now -- I don't know how Max Brooks could be so prescient! It's not a bad book, I just can't get into it because I'm too constantly seeing scary real-world parallels.

I read this because I heard it was really good on audiobook and I can see why someone would see that. It was pretty cool and the interviews were mostly interesting, but I just wasn’t really into the political and military interviews as much as I was into the recounts of someone’s survival without politics or military.

Switching to the audiobook version so I can get back into this story.. I don’t wanna DNF but I’ve quickly learned that this is NOT my type of writing style to read. I’m not a fan of non-fiction and this is exactly how this story reads (which I should have known based on the cover LOL) anyways….abridged version FTW!

This book is structured around a bunch of people from all over the world giving testimonials and I saw the audio book was a full cast recording so I figured I’d give it a try bc I hear those are better but these actors are Not voice actors or audio book narrators and some of this is ass :/

Did this book catch any flack for how outrageously stereotypical this israeli charter is? They even included the racism

There doesn’t seem to be a single version of this book w/o a deeply ugly cover :(

My AirPods died during both of these so not a lot of book progress from them.
