"Teddy" - that was an interesting ending especially compared to the first story in the collection.

“De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period” - this one was odd but I enjoyed it. I feel like it was less obvious than his other stories.

“Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes” - this one would make an interesting play since it’s mostly dialogue. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t my favorite of the bunch so far

“For Esmé—with Love and Squalor” - that might be my favorite story so far. And yes, clearly an inspiration for Lemony Snicket, not just the name but also the tone and motifs.

“Down at the Dinghy” - he’s so good at dialogue and not spoon feeding the reader. But I do find the stories end and I’m wanting a bit more.

“The Laughing Man” - this one felt a lot different than the others so far. It reminded me of Stephen King when he writes about childhood memories or nostalgia like in Stand By Me/The Body

"Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut" - another well-crafted psychological portrait of a post-WWII character, this time a suburban mother. I'm realizing I should not read Salinger for his stories' plots but instead the dialogue and the characters

"A Perfect Day for Bananafish" - I think Salinger is great at subtlety to the point that sometimes you have to read his stories a couple times to really grasp their meaning. This one had strong dialogue and clear, simple prose. I enjoyed it.

So, the main thing to take out of this is that even though not all of the individual stories amount to 4 stars each, the collection as a whole creates a family of stories that definitely deserve the 4 Star.
This is my last Salinger novel out of his (current) works. I feel a little sad but also accomplished. I know he's my favourite now, no doubt about it.
He is excellent in every work he allowed to be published.

I love love love love Perfect Day for Bananafish; and have yet to read Salinger's other short stories.
This book will mark the end of Salinger's works. Once this concludes, I will have read everything he had to offer the general public.
His distaste for popularity is something I admire yet also something I hate. I wish he published more. I think i'd spend the rest of my life just living on his words; if I could.
