I've re-read Bananafish three times, and probably twenty in my head. Something about it is worming throughout my inner cortex.

Bananafish is like brain candy. After the rush you have to dip back into the bowl and find yourself eating crackers. Then you realise that the breeze in your hair is really water.

I'm on Story 2. Much lighter and more sarcastic than Story 1.

In the last story Teddy, the author discussed about logic. There is one quote I might reveal a central idea of the book:"Logic, I think you're just giving me a regular , intelligent answer , Teddy said."I was trying to help you. You asked me how to get out of the finite dimension when i feel like it. i certainly don't use logic when i do it. logic's the first thing you need to get rid of."

"...I drew people in evening clothes stepping out of limousines on opening nights-lean, erect, super-chic couples who had obviously never in their lived inflicted suffering as a result of underarm carelessness-couples, in fact, who perhaps didn't have any underarms."

These stories end so anti-climatically. The stories themselves are good, but the endings are off.

I love the story "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes". It was a very interesting conversation between two man about love, marriage, anger and cheating. The title reflects the irony of this story. Besides, I noticed that Salinger mentioned many similar details in each of the stories. For example, many characters like crossing their legs and having cigarettes. It helps readers build connection with the characters.

The last two stories made little to no sense, especially the last one: War with the Eskimos

The book intrigues me very much. Slinger ingeniously created a sense of visualization for the readers. I feel like watching a movie clips. Instead of confusing people, the illogicality leaves me space to reflect on the hidden meaning of the stories, which is different from what i though last time. It reflects people's inferiority, love, secret, compassion, desperation and relationship with outside world. Fascinating

Another book recommend by Carrie Hope Fletcher! This has made me love short stories like these.

The similarities of the first and the second stories is that the author tells the stories mainly through the dialogues. Through the conversation, the author reveals the background, attitude and opinions about the character. The author is certainly expressing some views about the American society and war at that time since he mentioned the soldiers many times. I hope I can find more clues in the next stories.

I finished the first story and it did not make any sense to me... I did not understand the characters and the plot. The writing style of the story was very unusual but intersting. I think I need to read some reviews about the first story. I will continue reading the second story.

In classic Salinger fashion, this book is shrouded in mystery and curiosity, with compelling and intriguing characters worth turning the page to learn more about.
