Well that’s a nice cheerful story to start out with. Not.

I'm about a third of the way through so far, and so far I've loved A Perfect Day For Bananafish, and moderately enjoyed Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut, and Just Before the War with the Eskimos.

"Well, wudga marry him for, then?' Mary Jane said. 'Oh, God! I don't know. He told me he loved Jane Austen. He told me her books meant a great deal to him. That's exactly what he said. I found out after we were married that he didn't even read on of her books."

از این نظر جالبه که من از وجودشون خبر دارم, اگه اون هارو ندیده بودم اون وقت تز وجودشون بی خبر بودم . و وقتی از وجودشون بی خبر بودم نمیتونستم بگم که حتی وجود دارن . این نکته ی قشنگیه..

چراشو نمی دونم . من از کجا علتشو بدونم , خبر مرگم ؟ این بار قراره همه پیر پاتالا راه بیفتن برن. پیر پاتالای پنجاه و شصت ساله .
هیچ ادمی حق نداره بره جز ادمای پنجاه شصت ساله.
فقط ساعت کارشونو کم کن ,
دیگه حرفی ندارن ... عجب دنیایی!!!

Bravino 'sto Salinger, anche se un po' sopravvalutato. Mi ricorda Balotelli.

Ripensandoci, mi pare di poter dire che il nostro era un gruppo piuttosto straordinario, nel senso che, su sessanta uomini, non ce n'era uno solo che avesse il dono della socievolezza.

Mi ha detto che andava matto per Jane Austen. Diceva che i libri di Jane Austen erano una cosa importante, nella sua vita. Precise parole. E dopo che l'ho sposato ho scoperto che non ne aveva letto uno che è uno.

Am I allowed to say I’m not enjoying this? I like Catcher In The Rye and Franny and Zooey, but this is not nearly as interesting. Sigh. I shall persevere and finish it since it’s not very long:

I’m starting to think I should try digging into a war romance novel ?!?! or maybe it’s just Salinger

از طرفی دلم نمیاد تموم بشه و از طرف دیگه دلم میخواد زودتر بخونمش

The titular short story is simple, elegant and heartbreaking direct.
You take a really sleepy man, Esmé, and he always stands a chance
of again becoming a man with all his fac—with all his f-a-c-u-l-t-i-e-s
intact.

“Just because something is a certain way, instead of just behaves a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s an ignoramus.”

“Colors are only names. I mean if you tell them the grass is green, it makes them start expecting the grass to look a certain way.”

‪”I mean they don’t seem able to love us just the way we are. They don’t seem able to love us unless they can keep changing us a little bit. They love their reasons for loving us almost as much as they love us, and most of the time more. It’s not so good that way.”

So far, I've felt pretty split on these stories. Review tomorrow.

I think my favourite so far is war with the eskimos because I can't get over the perfect final paragraph and I liked the brother's character... I mean they are all good but Depressing *looks at bananafish*

I'm not sure how I feel about Salinger's stories, but his voice is really distinct. Great dialogue too.

there's like no affect in his writing, it's refreshing he lets the characters speak for themselves. it's nice to read stories where people just talk. more like this pls

Re-reading a master of short fiction.

Ce recueil de nouvelles qui ne racontent aucune histoire… j’ai vraiment une drôle de relation avec ce livre, qui fait partie de mes préférés, que je relis très souvent, et qui pourtant, ne rime à rien. J. D. Salinger était peut-être un des rares Américains à ne pas être terre-à-terre du tout, à voir le temps comme une boucle, à oublier de nous mener d’un point A à un point B. J’aime ça. Allez zou je continue.

Salinger knows how to write his short stories. You can see how he presents this idea of the innocence of childhood vs the reality of adulthood.

I am loving this so, so much! I'm not the biggest short story reader out there but J.D Salinger always manages to immediately capture me with his stories.. Truly marvellous.
