“The fact is always obvious much too late, but the most singular difference between happiness and joy is that happiness is a solid and joy a liquid.”

Algunas empiezan ahora a hundirse.

Teddy tells the story of a gifted boy on a cruise. We first see how he speaks and expresses himself -way too properly for his age- and later in the story his precocity is addressed. Very interesting ideas about meditation and reincarnation, I think Salinger was following Zen Buddhism at some point.

In "Pretty mouth and green my eyes", a man and a woman are together in his bedroom when he receives a call from a distressed man whose wife hasn't arrived home after a party both of them attended.
Throughout the phone call, we learn from the husband's doubts and and problems, and see how the other man attempts to reassure him: we are lead to believe that the woman in that bedroom is the caller's wife... then, PKD

An American receives an invitation for a wedding in England. He would love to go, but can't, and so he starts writing a letter where we, the readers, find out how it all came to be.
A soldier in WW2, this person was training in Devon before D-day. He meets a young girl on a rainy day... The letter explains how they meet and then takes us some time after V-day.
So very nicely written, great, clever dialogue...

The Laughing Man is the story that the Chief Comanche tells a bunch of kids (the Comanche Club) every afternoon and national holiday for sports and other activities.
Set in 1928, these kids live in NY, and spend a lot of their spare time in Central Park. The Comanche Club is men-only, until it is disrupted by the presence of Mary.
This story gracefully combines childhood, adulthood and fantasy. Really nice.
