I love Salinger so much.

this short story served as a reminder that jd salinger is just a man. a pretty bad one at that. nothing about the story really stuck out to say this but idk if you read it you’ll know.

De Daumier-Smith’s Blue Period: kind of some mix between the Italy of The Talented Mr Ripley and CMBYN, as if Tom was Elio, and Elio were attracted to art, not music. I liked this one, it would have made a great book but the short story was fine too. I liked the beginning and the middle more than the end, when he was talking about the nun so much.

Another confusing, probably need to read it again story but good. The grey haired man kind of reminded me of my grandfather.

I don't know what For Esme etc. was really about but it was okay. 2.5/5. Not my favorite, probably my least favorite, but not all that bad, either. Just probably takes a couple reads over to get it. I liked Clay, though.

Just Before the War with the Eskimos is my current fav story out of the ones i’ve read so far !! J.D Salinger’s dialogue is very entertaining, he manages to make casual conversation about nothing extremely engaging :D

Down at the Dinghy - a sweet story about motherhood and complying with a child's imagination, as naïve as the are, in spite of a society that can be cruel and harsh. The ending was sort of touching in a way - and it didn't go the easy route of conedming prejudice explicitly, but rather subtly. 8/10

i am imagining salingers stories as films shot in the style of Wes Anderson and it makes the reading experience more picturesque for imagining and his writing style i just always eat up but i dont fully understand the meaning behind whats written or if there is anything behind it (salinger you pretentious egotistical bitch mwah)

07. Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes, 4 stars. Man tries to soothe an anxious husband looking for his wife, the missing wife listens from her side of the bed.
08. De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period, 3 stars. Teenager lies his way into teaching at a sham drawing school, scares a nun with his creepy letter.
09. Teddy, 4 stars. Little boy is far along his path to enlightenment, tries to prepare his parents for the future.

05. Down at the Dinghy, 3 stars. Maid is nervous a child will repeat something nasty he overheard her say, mother coaxes it out of him with difficulty.
06. For Esmé—with Love and Squalor, 4 stars. Lonely American soldier talks to two British children, receives a care package from them.

Down at the Dinghy; my favorite part of the whole story was the last page and a half or so where Lionel cries and Boo Boo caters to him. It was romantic and real, I guess. Something about a boy crying just gets to me all weird like. Boys just don’t cry, it’s an oddity when they do.
