Marni Mann
“I cupped her wet cheeks, scanning her eyes from right to left. “Talk to me.” The hurt in her face, the emotion in her eyes, I couldn’t fucking handle it. I wanted to take it from her. I wanted it to be my ache, not hers. I wanted to heal her, but if I told her that, if I gave her my honesty, she would never understand why. She would only build her walls taller. “What happened, Eden?” There was already a knife in my heart and the way she gazed at me drove it in even further. “You can tell me. Whatever it is.”
As I traced beneath her eyelids, clearing away the tears, her head tilted back, giving me a better view of her face. But that wasn’t the only thing she gave me. As the silence ticked, she slowly gave me more of her weight, inch by inch, pound by pound, until she had completely fallen against me.
I didn’t move.
Every part of me was holding every part of her.
“What happened?” I repeated.
“You happened.”
