Alesia Matson is a passionate storyteller and one of the creative forces behind Metaphor Publications, Inc. Along with Michael, her husband and MetPub’s co-founder, she weaves narratives that reach out to readers from another world, captivating minds and touching hearts.

Alesia was born in Xenia, Ohio in 1961. From an early age, she was enchanted by the power of words. Growing up with a well-used library card and surrounded by books, she developed an appreciation for storytelling that blossomed into a passion for writing. As a teen she grew into her love of music, and pursued it, along with writing, as an undergraduate at Morehead State University in Kentucky.

She has two grown sons from her first marriage, which started in 1983 and ended in 1993. During those years she was introduced to her third passion, counted cross-stitch, and an over-arching delight in fiber-based art. She met and married Michael in 1994, and moved to California to begin writing professionally.

She and Michael share a lifelong gift for language and a vivid imagination. Her diverse background in music, literature, psychology, and creative arts enriches her work, allowing her to imbue her characters with compelling authenticity and emotional resonance. This unique blend of insight and creativity shines through everything she’s written under the Metaphor Publications banner. It is one of her core beliefs that stories are more than mere entertainment—they are bridges connecting people across cultures and generations.

As a co-founder of Metaphor Publications, Alesia champions voices that inspire empathy and spark meaningful conversations. Her own writing focuses around imaginative, speculative tales, marked by lyrical prose and thoughtful themes. They often reflect her life-long struggles with adult depression, as well as her journey through to a moderately hopeful recovery. She uses what she’s learned from mental illness in her writing, delving into the complexities of identity, resilience, and hope to develop characters who often struggle to see the world for what it is, not through the lies that depression tells.

When she’s not writing or stitching, Alesia enjoys cuddling Michael and her cat Libby, practicing mindfulness, cooking (and eating) American and Mediterranean cuisine, going on walks with her neighbor, and finding inspiration in everyday moments. These experiences fuel her creativity and remind her of the endless metaphors life offers—metaphors she skillfully transforms into stories that resonate long past the final pages in her books. Her voice is warm, insightful, and reflects a profound belief in the capacity of stories to heal and unite us all.
