“Treasures in the Trash” is a real story about the author who faced a church leadership that was cruelly destructive. Their actions brought back painful memories from their childhood. This experience led her to see a connection between abusive parents and negative people in the Church. By rediscovering her early memories, she started to notice the unhealthy, toxic similarities between her former church and her childhood. The author overcame a childhood of neglect and harm, only to re-experience it within her church family. Church hurts can be just as devastating as childhood wounds. She was looking for Biblical solutions to the hardships in her church, but instead of healing, she was told to forget the repeated unkindness. Like her father, she was never allowed to talk about the wounds inflicted by self-centered people. We can gain freedom and victory with liberating Godly treasure!

The McMorlans have cultivated a shared passion for adventure and has discovered numerous ways to enrich their lives together. Some of their regular activities include nature photography and videography, hiking, camping, rock hounding, and her husband’s motorcycle, which she accompanies on various journeys. Additionally, they have served together within their Church community and participated in a nationwide program called Celebrate Recovery. Over several years, they led a group as members of the T.E.A.M. program. They also contributed to the Church Leadership Board, where she conducted Bible Studies and led Step Studies.

Kristy McMorlan acquired her culinary skills prior to her ability to read, self-teaching herself the use of the stove. She would “cook” by standing on kitchen chairs, boiling noodles, draining them, and tasting spices to “flavor” her meal. As no one demonstrated the process to her, she did so out of necessity. Kristy’s determination and resourcefulness extended into adulthood, leading her to become a self-taught freelance fine arts nature photographer, author, and blogger.
