I was raised in Iowa and now live in the lovely Rogue Valley of southern Oregon. My father was a zoo director so I was surrounded by animals while growing up. Since then I've raised three wonderful children, become an RN, and write in my free time. I love to read both fiction and nonfiction. As I spend a lot of time in my car I've become a big fan of audio books. ...more

I read in the Oregonian the other day that the Imnaha wolf pack has been killed off. That is the pack OR7 originated from. Is he still OK and are his progeny in another pack? Hopefully still alive?

Yes, sadly, the Imnaha pack was lethally removed by the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife in the spring of 2016 due to livestock depredations. OR7's father, OR3, and the current breeding female of the pack, along with their two yearling pups were killed.

OR7 and his mate have formed the Rogue pack down here in Southern Oregon and are doing well! They had their fourth litter of pups this spring. We hope they continue to thrive and stay away from cattle!(less)

Did you know? I'm assuming you probably do, but just in case: I just learned that Journey has become a grandfather. One of his sons returned to California and fathered a litter there. They are called the Lassen Pack. I saw the notice on Care2 website. Such great news of Journey's legacy!

Yes, I did hear about that. Isn't it fantastic! And we have recently learned that Journey and his mate have produced their fourth litter of pups. Imagine, being a new dad and a grandad at the same time! There are some great pics on the US Fish and Wildlife Service website. What a legacy he has created!(less)

Journey: End of an Era

In wildness is the preservation of the world.

Henry David Thoreau

Eleven years is a long, long time for a wild wolf to live, so for the past year or so Ive contemplated the loss of Journey and how it will feel to know that this iconic, larger than life figure is no longer trotting through the forests of Southern Oregon. Sadness is there, of course, but also a feeling of celebration, of liftin Read more of this blog post »
