If it's during a writing session, I'll go make a cup of coffee, sit down with my notepad and re-outline what's coming, because something wrong with the story is generally the problem here.

If it's before a writing session and I really don't know what to write, I'll edit something. These days I've got something to outline or something to edit.

Otherwise, I'll generally just sit and write. I seem to have a two hundred word barrier I need to push through - which I once thought was "writer's block". Even knowing those two hundred words are likely to be total rubbish that'll be heavily edited later or even discarded, I'll push through it. Once I'm through it, the writing comes easily.(less)
