I enjoyed this book very much--and had to research a couple of things she wrote about. The Grand Illumination Night for one. I'd like to see that one August on Martha's Vineyard!

Her characters were unusual and captivating. Her villains were quite vil

I read an essay by Agar in Writers Digest about writing this book, and it made me want to read it.

I enjoyed it very much, though "enjoying" some of the hard things Fiona has to go through is not the right sentiment! I felt it was a little slow in the

A lovely but sad book. I felt for all these characters (though not Grace's mother. But she was a woman of her times, or maybe of all times.)

I do wonder, though, what we, as readers, would have thought if the pregnancy was less abhorrent. If the femal

I would have given this 4 stars until the end.

I was not expecting this to end on a "cliffhanger" that will have to be solved in a next book. I'm tired of series. Write me a story that has some sort of resolution that I can ruminate on.

Reading the two-star reviews on Project Hail Mary, I agree with many of them: white man learns new language in a day and saves universe in a jokey manner, but I have to say those criticisms didn't bother me. Yes, there was quite a bit of disbelief yo ...more

As an Austen lover, I'm a sucker for an adaptation, a parody, a side-story in books, tv and movies.

This one wasn't my favorite. It got pretty laughable at times: "taut biceps lurk under his jacket like stones just beneath the surface in a shallow pon

I didn't have an issue with the dad at all. It seemed entirely realistic to me--except for being able to sneak out at night and the kids not knowing about it (and leaving the mom "alone.")
