“My advice for those who are just starting out is define your North Star. Always have your mission in mind, remember why you started, and stay true to your story. Hopefully, you are solving a real problem for a meaningful population. When competition pops up, it’s easy to lose sight of why you started and it can knock you off your game. Sometimes you think you need to change direction or “pivot,” like investors like to say. Or you feel compelled to chase something the competition is doing. You can easily get distracted, and then you create all sorts of fire drills to react to what the competition is doing. In the past, I’ve allowed this to happen.
