I was on my way to the register to purchase a shirt when a sales associate yelled, “Active shooter!”

I bent low and ran with the other customers to the back door. I emerged into blinding sunlight on the outside of the mall.

“You’re safe,” said the employee holding the door.

“My daughter is in the mall,” I said.
