If I can take a few days to hash things out, I find the best thing to do is get a good night of rest. My brain works to solve things as I sleep and I often awake the next morning with the new words I was looking for. If there's a deadline and I can't go back to it a day or two later, I exercise, listen to music, or have a conversation with someone so my thoughts are on something else for a while. When I go back to the writing project, I can often look at it with new eyes.(less)

It will focus on their family relationships and, of course, we will find out a few things we didn't expect. I'm not ready to give any more details yet. Fear Not the Starry Sky is written in limited/close third person. I found this to be suitable for the story, but experienced some challenges with presenting Kat's inner thoughts without being too wordy. This story about Zoe and her sister will be in first person which, I think, will allow us to get closer to the protagonist, but will provide other challenges. (less)

“They sat and listened to the cicadas’ song, savoring the stillness
of the evening. Kat sighed, wishing the craziness that began that night
at Emerson’s would just fade away. - Fear Not the Starry Sky - page 124”
M.L. Terese, Fear Not the Starry Sky: A Kathleen Lang Novel

“A black telephone
receiver was stuffed in the small space between his ear and his
shoulder; he motioned for them to sit in the stiff wooden armchairs in
front of his desk. Moments later he hung up the phone, the base
ringing lightly from the impact.
“So you’re still in a mess, aren’t you?” he said.”
M.L. Terese, Fear Not the Starry Sky: A Kathleen Lang Novel

“He wore khaki pants and a dark blue tee shirt, and was much shorter
than he sounded on the phone. For some reason this made Kat even
more uneasy.”
