The nature of poetry is in its uniqueness and random flow. A person is not only a mother when they have their own child. A person can be mothering in nature when caring for others. So it is with poetry. Write what you feel, what you see, what you are, where you have been. Write about your journey, the part of your life that you most relate to and feel passionate about. The words are not always meant to flow rapidly, sometime they are still, and sometimes they do not flow, at all. But it is in that silence where a new beauty grows, and when the words are ready, they will tell you. Be patient, however. Similar to a painting, or a choreographed dance, the art may take time to find its shape.(less)

I would sit for what seemed hours watching her make these flowers. She also inspired me to paint, but not paint by numbers, and she taught me about poetry, reading to me, and asking me to write my own.(less)

Robert Frost
“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.”
Robert Frost

Robert Frost
“We love the things we love for what they are.”

Robert Frost
“Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.”
Robert Frost

Emily Dickinson
“Forever is composed of nows.”
Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson
A Word is Dead

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day.”
Emily Dickinson, The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson
