I wanted to like this more than I actually liked it. I bought it very cheap, though, and I enjoyed it enough that I'll read the second one.

I don't love the Alex books the way I love the first two Verity books, but he's ok. And I'm glad to check in on Sarah and learn that she is recovering!

This marks my second reading of Station Eleven, and it is every bit as intensely engaging as the first time I read it. Gorgeously written, dark, complex and compelling, this is one of the best pieces of post-apocalyptic I've ever read.

Michael Connelly
“With the money from the legal settlement, he hires a beautiful young woman from the local university to type for him as he orally composes the sentences. But soon he realizes she is editing and rewriting what he tells her before she even types it in. And what dawns on him is that she is the better writer. Soon he sits mute in the room while she writes. He only watches. He wants to kill her, strangle her with his hands. But he can’t move his hands to do it. He is in hell.”
Michael Connelly, The Poet

Agatha Christie
“She was a lucky woman who had established a happy knack of writing what quite a lot of people wanted to read. Wonderful luck that was, Mrs. Oliver thought to herself.”
Agatha Christie, Elephants Can Remember

Georgette Heyer
“She thought that Fontley had suffered as much from a negligent mistress as from an improvident master.”
Georgette Heyer, A Civil Contract

J.R.R. Tolkien
“Already the hour had struck, and at his great Master’s bidding he must march with war into the West.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien
“Mourn not overmuch! Mighty was the fallen, meet was his ending. When his mound is raised, women then shall weep. War now calls us!”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
