Author G. S. Kenney (Ginger) started reading early, and never stopped. In kindergarten, drawn in by an interesting book with a picture of three witches at a cauldron, she learned to read by starting with Macbeth. Now she writes speculative fiction. Her science-fiction romance novel Freeing Eden, published by Soul Mate Publishing in May, 2019, was a 2018 finalist in the Golden Heart® contest of the Romance Writers of America. The Last Lord of Eden, the second novel in the Ascent of Eden series, is also published by Soul Mate.
Interested in many fields, Ginger studied the “Great Books” at St. John’s College, architecture at Harvard, and financial planning at Boston University. She has also conducted post-doctoral research in psychology at the

The *re…moreThere are many small mysteries--lost objects never found, for example--that wouldn't be more than an incidental complication in a larger book. The *real* mysteries are always people.

My mother, for example, had a friend, let's call her Susan, ever since they were both children in middle school. Both grew up, married, had children. And even through various moves, they kept in touch. Years passed, and they both found themselves living in Florida.

One day, my mom called Susan to see if they might get together, and Susan told my mom that she didn't want to see her, and never to call her again. My mom had absolutely no idea what might have happened.

Time passed, and my mom was truly troubled by this event. She didn't want to lose Susan as a friend. I encouraged her to call Susan and ask what the problem was. This, my mother did.

Susan answered the phone, and when she understood it was my mother calling, she grew very cold. "What do you want?"

Mom explained that she valued Susan's friendship, and if she'd done anything to offend her, she wanted to make it right.

"Do you really mean to tell me that you don't know what you did?" Susan asked.

"Honestly, I have no idea."

"Then I am certainly not going to tell you." And Susan hung up on her. That was the last conversation they ever had.

They are all dead now, my mom and Susan and their respective husbands, so I guess I'll never know. But this is something rich and deep and painful enough to weave into a good, complicated, and ultimately redemptive book.(less)
