Mostly what I will be reading is children's books and probably the same ones for many nights in a row. If the demands of motherhood allow, I am going to try and read at least five of the big sellers before switching back to my tried and true young adult fantasy books. (less)

If I really get stuck I take some time to clear my head. I'll watch a new television show or movie, read a book, take a few walks, and do something that is calming. Typically when I have it, it is because I have too many ideas swirling. When that happens I write down a few of them on a piece of paper and let it sit over night. Watching a television show or movie helps me to see what I like about certain characters, what resonates with me, and how I can use that influence with the characters in my head. The worst writer's block I had was when someone said something that was meant to be supportive but actually caused me to freeze. It was when I realized people were actually reading and waiting for my book. This was a solid two months of "I'm screwing this up" thoughts. What got me through this was a friend that asked me a simple question about a character. I finally remembered the excitement I have when writing and that night I wrote six chapters. There are different types of writer's block and different ways to deal with it. Personally, I just need to let my head clear and take it easy. If nothing happens within a week, I sit in front of the computer or notebook and just type random sentences until thoughts form. If you're reading this because you have writer's block, good luck and you're going to get through it!(less)
What a day to update my blog. The snow is falling gracefully onto the top of the White Mountains, the air smells like snow, and the wind is carrying the gentle cold I missed so terribly in Virginia.
There have been a lot of changes over the past couple of years. I have moved 3 times, worked as a quality chemist, began the divorce process, and enjoyed watching my daughter grow. I have learned some
