My advice for aspiring writers is to keep on writing!

Whatever you are writing counts, and provides an excellent opportunity to develop your unique skills, style, and technique.

Whether you are writing a blog, a resume, a review, or a thousand-page book, it gives you the opportunity to develop and perfect your writing, and connects the writer and readers with the important aspects of expression and communication, which are essential when getting words out of the mind and onto the page!

Also, always being open to new and expansive writing possibilities is an asset to consider, as many people put up barriers to the written word, and stay comfortably in what is familiar to them instead of embracing something outside of their usual writing zone.

So, my advice is to challenge yourself!

Never say, "I couldn't write that!"

Because with time, effort, practice, and an open mind, you certainly can!

In dealing with the classical symptom's, (stale content, dreary dialogue, and other literary uncertainties) I often employ the following easy steps:

1. Remove all obstacles. This may include such things as unnecessary text, repetitions, or anything else that is obscuring the real point of the chapter, paragraph, or the storyline.

2. Edit the surroundings. From noisy environments (not always easy to remove), sometimes just doing something different can bring a new perspective.
Go for a walk, have a cup of tea, cook something, spend time with friends, pets, and family; it all helps.

3. Get out the trusty thesaurus. Some people may find this redundant, but sometimes just immersing yourself in new words can bring unexpected and new or even better ideas than you could imagine.
It has not failed me yet!

4. Time. Giving everything time and space can work wonders for fresh ideas.

5. Read, read, & read. This also may seem obvious, but just reading something else may help. Also, reading and editing your own text helps and keeps you immersed in the story.

6. Patience. Finally, patience is required, and sometimes the best things are truly last!

So, keep writing and reading, and learn as you go!

Connoisseurs of Crime Moriston House Mystery No. 8

Crime was never cozier at Moriston House, Lord Hugo Anstead's elegant estate tucked away in the charming English countryside. A quiet Tuesday evening is shattered when their gossipy London Agent, Penny Martin, reports a murder at the newly appointed Mayfair Detective Agency. As one of society's rambling English roses, everything she said was news. Her bridge parties were the toast of the town--unt Read more of this blog post »
