Then I just work on it. Even if I am not really in the mood for writing, I find that just making a start is enough to get the juices flowing. Time spent working on the book is never lost, even if I scrap a part I have written and do it again. (less)

Hi Angela,
Thanks for your interest in The Compassionate Englishwoman.

If I recall rightly, Churchill always believed that he was captured by, Louis Botha, the Commander-in-Chief of the Transvaal Boers himself at Frere. Not all historians are convinced!

Well done for writing your book. Not knowing where you are in the process, I can only repeat the usual advice: Make sure it is the very best you can possibly make it (some novelists write 12 to 14 drafts). Then do some homework on publishers and write a one page letter to a few containing a short description of your book. Ask if they are interested in receiving a copy of your manuscript. If they say no or do not reply, try some more publishers. Don't be disheartened by a lack of success - keep trying.

Alternatively, and perhaps even preferably, consider self publication. There are many services that can assist you, but it does mean spending some money before you get any sales. First, use an experienced editor to edit your MS. Then get a book designer to design a cover and 'package' the whole for you in the form of print-ready PDF files. Then look for a 'print on demand' service to print it for you. If you write to me at robert.eales@middleharbourpress.com I'll be glad to recommend some. Finally you have to do the marketing yourself.

It sounds daunting, but is not as bad as it seems and you have full control all the time. Moreover you make much more per sale than you would otherwise.

Some of my ancestors were 1820 Settlers: a William Eales and wife Rachel Sarah from Berkshire. You will find them easily in the records that I'm sure you have at your fingertips. So I would like to read your book one day.

Good luck and best wishes,
Robert(less)
