Born and raised in the Netherlands, and very much happy in his quirky little country, Tim Arthur has nevertheless always had a great appreciation for English-language fiction, specifically science fiction and fantasy. As a child, his head was always stuck in alternate realities instead of the actual one, which is a trait he carried over effortlessly into his adult life.

Besides writing scifi from a passion born from the genre, Tim is an avid futurist and AI supporter, a transhumanist at heart, and passionate about the way science and technology are transforming 21st century civilisation.

When he's not writing he's either out on lengthy bike tours, having a beer with his friends while playing Xbox, or studying philosophy and history.

It will always happen that a chapter's difficult to write, or a character doesn't define as well as you would like, but all that means is that you have your work cut out for you. It makes no sense to respond to a challenge by doing nothing, in any other line of work that's suicide, so there's no reason why it'd be anything else for a writer.(less)

Feeling silly about your own work is natural, and you'll have to get past it. Secondly, study. There's a lot of things to learn about narrative theory and self-editing that are huge aids to any writer. I spent more hours reading up on what makes a story tick than you might think, and I spent -way- more hours than even that on reviewing chapters to see how I could streamline story elements and have them tie in to each other. A short story can be a spontaneous thing, but for a full length novel you're going to do have to do a lot of narrative engineering.(less)

Let's do another chapter draft

Again, remember that this is all unedited. I’m giving it to you raw. It’s a little sneak preview into what I’m working on for book Beta, like the two chapters I posted before this.

Anyhow, enjoy :)
